A young Southerner loses his grip on reality when his favorite movie star dies suddenly. College undergraduate Jimmy J. (Richard Thomas) is an avid fan of "Rebel Without a Cause" star James Dean, but he finds himself unmoored by his hero's untimely death, which occurs in an auto accident on September 30, 1955. Though he initially resolves to memorialize the actor in a touching fashion, Jimmy soon finds himself on a path that includes debauchery and danger.

SICKS6SIX S @sicks6six 05/15/2023 anything about Dean will be scrutinised more than any other person I reckon, I'm surprised this only scored 50% public and no professional comments about it, as it is not about JD per-se, it's about people who like him, that's a big cross-section of potential viewers, I think it is pretty good with some strong acting, Thomas, Cher and Co all have Stella moments and the whole film strolls along nicely, no boring parts, no dull moments, it's a good laugh all the way, I'm not sure if it is meant to be that funny, black humour was the directors goal but its too funny to be dark, it is well worth watching, it's more than a way to pass some time, its better than that, 80% See more 07/25/2010 As a huge James Dean fan, this really struck a chord with me. A small movie which didn't get the big audience it deserved. Richard Thomas is best remembered as The Walton's John-Boy, but he really should be remembered for great performances like this.
