On a String (2025)
5.5/10
EDIT
“It feels like there is a sharper, stronger comedy at the heart of On a String that is weighed down by standard visual storytelling and a lack of bold, side-splitting humor. While by no means a poor effort, Hagen’s directorial debut does not stand out.” –

8/10
EDIT
“Though it can’t help but find a way to connect its perfectly disparate pieces, Killer of Killers is first and foremost a brilliant genre experiment that provides high-octane, cutthroat action and gorgeously detailed animation.” –

Gallagher (2024)
EDIT
“The filmmakers’ thoroughness digs up a few too many old grudges to fully reframe the comedian’s work as inspiring or misunderstood for newcomers. However, for longtime fans, this is certainly a must-see and a fitting swan song.” –

Really Happy Someday (2024)

“J Stevens' feature debut, [Really Happy Someday], is a raw yet tender coming-of-gender portrait [that] feels like a product of the genre’s evolution.” –

“Some films are about rebellions. It’s rare that a film is, in and of itself, a rebellion. All of this, and more, makes The Seed of the Sacred Fig a landmark.” –

“Dan and Samuel Habib will get more opportunities to carve out a formal sensibility for what disability cinema looks like from Samuel’s perspective, to the point that maybe Samuel will direct a film on his own.” –

“[T]he film is plainly stated in its themes and styles and, as a result, suffers from a monotony that, while reflective of the film’s sobering perspective on life’s highs and lows, translates to an imperfect, if moving, final product.” –

Igor Levit - No Fear (2022)

“Although Levit is a consummate pianist, there is only so much one gains from seeing Levit perform over and over. It doesn’t help that a majority of these moments are blandly shot and edited, as can be said for the documentary as a whole...” –

Ryuichi Sakamoto: Opus (2023)

“The film’s beautifully rendered final moments are the cinematic equivalent of his spirit being lifted from our earthly plain, capped off with one of Sakamoto’s favorite adages: Ars longa, vita brevis. Art is long, life is short. ” –
