What to Know

Critics Consensus

A swing for the comedy fences, The Hawk may miss more often than it connects but still finds moments of the chaotic charm that made Will Ferrell a standout.

The Hawk doesn’t quite soar to prime sport comedy-heights, but Will Ferrell keeps the laughs rolling through the rough patches.

It's an amiably shambly golfing comedy that finds him doing all the familiar Will Ferrell things. Although he's an acquired taste I've never fully acquired, I found myself laughing enough to watch all 10 half-hour episodes. Go to Full Review

The Hawk takes a formula that once worked well for Ferrell -- the charming but brash man-child that stumbles his way into success -- and flattens it into a parody of itself. Go to Full Review

Will Ferrell’s answer to Happy Gilmore is as much bogey as it is birdie, but there are some tasteless treats to be had. Would have been better as a film, though. Go to Full Review

It feels like an old-school comedy reimagined as a television series, giving audiences the chance to actually get to know these comedic characters instead of simply brushing past them for the sake of a joke. Go to Full Review

Director David Gordon Green (The Righteous Gemstones) usually knows what to do with unlikable characters, but it can be hard to watch the petulant Hawkins as he treats people terribly and thinks only of himself (at least in early episodes). Go to Full Review

Yes, all of this makes for a messy life and it describes a lot of what’s happening in "The Hawk," a show that proves to be a mixed bag. It’s alternately funny and uneven, and never finds a narrative cruise control. Go to Full Review

Trash M @Trashman44 15h Not a 31 like most the reviews say, was better then that. I laughed a lot and in typical Will Ferrell fashion he was hilarious most the time. See more Metal S. @MetalSombreros 20h 2 episodes in. Will Farrell is funny, the ENTIRE rest of the cast is god-awful. Horrible casting See more Nick V @RT79026311 1d It's a fun 1 season series with some classic Will Ferrell Humor which is toned down a bit, but all the more likeable for those like me who think his full crash outs in other movies and series are a bit much. Fortune and Will's chemistry is undoubtedly the best part! Critics being critics are too damn hard on something that's meant to be a light hearted watch. VERY enjoyable! See more Julie G @RT14955612 2d I really enjoyed it! I recommend pushing past the first 3 episodes. I liked the first 3, but wasn't in love with it. By the end of the series, I had totally fallen in love with the whole show. There are some laugh out loud moments and lots of great one-liners. And, by the end of the series, I actually felt a little heart-warmed. I love Will Ferrel comedy. If you don't, I'm not sure if it will land. I thought Fortune Feimster was so funny too. Loved the whole cast. See more Andrew A @Drew97 2d Feels like happy Gilmore meets eastbound and down See more Branson W @bran1985 3d All it was missing is Kenny power See more Read all reviews
