Critics Consensus

While Alien was a marvel of slow-building, atmospheric tension, Aliens packs a much more visceral punch, and features a typically strong performance from Sigourney Weaver.

Let's not mince words: Aliens is the greatest horror movie since Frankenstein. Here is a rare instance in which a sequel is infinitely superior to the original. Alien, the 1979 thriller, now seems like a preliminary sketch. Go to Full Review

Priya C. @Sci-FiTrekkie 5d Aliens ups the action and stakes with characters you care about. Ripley once again continues to be an amazing character. See more Jeffrey G @Jeffrey20000 Apr 30 This was one of the very best action flicks ever produced by Hollywood. Just like Godzilla Minus One, it's not just a monster flick - it's the sort of movie where you become invested in each character - the human equation. You can relate to them and feel their pain and anguish. Anyone who gives this movie anything less that 98% is simply disingenuous or uninformed, IMO. The stars are among the best. See more J H @RT44490115 Apr 28 Excellent follow up movie to the original horror sci fi classic Alien. I recommend the new directors cut that provided better background to the story. Definitely great effects, story, and characters. See more Howie B @Howie10 Apr 21 Definitely as good if not better than the original. More of the Aliens than in the first film, and despite a little too predictable set-up script was visually very satisfying for its time and it even stands up well for today for its special effects. The testosterone overdrive in the earlier portions of the film are a bit cringeworthy, but Sigourney saves the day. Watched as a double feature either the first film was a great night at the movies in a packed theatre. See more Michael H @RT18197340 Apr 16 Absolutely the best movie in the franchise, some of the best movie quotes of all time, Bill Paxton is at his peak in this, They all are, it’s one of my top most entertaining movies, if you have never seen it, your life isn’t complete. See more Benjamin W. @Code70 Apr 15 A perfect sequel to a perfect movie. Whereas Alien was a masterful slow-burn, atmospheric horror film, Aliens is a much more action-oriented, viscerally thrilling experience. Which one you prefer lies entirely on your own tastes, but there’s no denying that Aliens is one of the all-time great movie sequels. It goes bigger with the scale, the stakes are more personal, and there’s a lot more alien carnage-candy to feast on. I mean, what can you say? It’s just one of the greats. See more Read all reviews
