gungi T @WhatWhere Feb 7 The ‘ghost’ lingers in the past and shapes the present and future. Thus, both ghostwriters - the former and the new one - serve as invisible detectives who slowly uncover the secret behind Lang's dubious personality. At the same time, the film draws attention to the eponymous title and its ambiguity by positioning the writer (Lang) himself as a ghostly figure in the spectral memoirs that preserve the past. Although the film has an intriguing premise and holds a lot of potential, it doesn't take full advantage of the opportunity to achieve the quality it could have. It creates atmosphere and tension, but ironically, like Lang's memoir in the film, the middle section of the film suffers from it being simply too drawn out. In the end the movie picks up again an delivers its mystery behind the book that concerns all the players involved. And fittingly, as the ghost remains in the dark, the camera eventually tilts away and he is never to be seen again. However suffice it to say that the big reveal at the end has something very wrong with it. Nevertheless I think it's a great movie. Every scene is a cross between elegance and sterile, just so clean. There is no sunlight, all overcast or stormy. This atmosphere creates a suspense that slow burns for the full two hours. Suppose I could talk about the plot and acting, but for me, this film was always about the visuals.
