Wayne K @RT88290232 14h A modestly budgeted film that does everything it can to look and feel big, with larger-than-life characters, greenscreens, scale models and a pantheon of Gods pulling the strings. The film says a lot about humans dependence on a higher power, able to ask for its guidance but not willing to deal with the consequences. It’s also a condemnation of man’s hubris, with King Pelias defiantly taking another’s throne, despite the God’s warning him against it. There’s elements that, from a story telling perspective, don’t make much sense. For example, how does Jason not realise he’s in the presence of King Pelias when it’s so blatantly obvious? Also, the whole crux of the film is Jason getting the golden fleece and returning to exact revenge on Pelias, but that isn’t show. Instead it’s teased for a sequel that never materialised. Those issues aside, it’s a classic adventure story with memorable characters, battles and important life lessons. Give it a watch sometime. This the film that started my love for stop motion and if im honest made me into the film buff that i am. Im always supporting the use of practical effects and use of miniatures( if applicable) in film. See more Ray C @RT17651982 Mar 13 Definitely the best Percy Jackson movie for sure. I wanted to like Jason and the Argonauts more than I did, but there’s no denying that this is a classic. It’s pretty amazing what they were able to do at the time this came out. The effects are an easy standout. They can look a bit iffy at times, but this movie came out over 60 years ago. I’ve always been a big fan of Greek mythology, so it was really cool seeing that come to life on screen. My favorite scene was definitely the skeleton fight at the end. It has the best choreography and the best-looking effects in the movie. It sucks that this bombed when it came out, because it really feels like one half of a story that deserved a sequel.
