In early-1970s Las Vegas, low-level mobster Sam "Ace" Rothstein (Robert De Niro) gets tapped by his bosses to head the Tangiers Casino. At first, he's a great success in the job, but over the years, problems with his loose-cannon enforcer Nicky Santoro (Joe Pesci), his ex-hustler wife Ginger (Sharon Stone), her con-artist ex Lester Diamond (James Woods) and a handful of corrupt politicians put Sam in ever-increasing danger. Martin Scorsese directs this adaptation of Nicholas Pileggi's book.

Without stinting on the viciousness, Scorsese still conveys an element of nostalgia in Casino, although it's less because the movie is convinced by Ace and Nicky's vision of the good old days than it is skepticism over what will eventually replace them.

A tedious slog masquerading as cinema. Some overrated arrogant actors show us how to be horrible human beings with a good tailor. This film may actually help gamblers kick their addiction because if you have to be around or enrich people like this, it's worse than losing money. These characters lost their souls a long time ago, so it is well cast. The actors showed up to set, put on some nice clothes, and simply acted like the terrible people they seem to be in real life. I wish I had this time back to do something, anything else.

What a fantastic achievement of cinema Technically a phenomenal movie with some amazing dialogue and acting. I know people will say Sharon Stones performance is the winner, and it is great, but Joe Pesci was the one for me. The sound was a bunch of classics, perfectly setting the tone with great cinematography and production designs that truly displayed the glamour. I thought the story, whilst incredibly long, was an amazing story, and to know it's a good amount of it being real is incredible. I thought the way they made things tick together and click into place was a great story, but I really didn't like the overriding voice over. I understood in the beginning but it felt like it overtook the movie sometimes to fill in gaps. It felt like telling not showing. I'm watching a movie not listening to a book. Overall, it was a fantastic experience but one where I'm chomping at the bit to experience again since I feel like it won't hit as hard and therefore not have the same level of impact
