Critics Consensus

Despite its timely subject matter, Collateral Damage is an unexceptional and formulaic action thriller.

It will be remembered less for its generic content than for the real-life events that give it an eerie resonance.

The subject matter is timely and relevant, but the attention to action over sincerity dulls the potency of the themes - as any shoot-'em-up Schwarzenegger movie should.

Straining every muscle not to offend, Collateral Damage counts basic coherence among its own casualties. But it's crystal clear on one point: Taking mercy on the "enemy," women and children included, is for wimps.

By 2002 Arnold Schwarzenegger´s status had dropped and "Collateral Damage" is clearly the last nail in the action coffin if you ask me. This is formulaic, wobbly, discriminatory, laughable (Despite a very serious subject matter and only a year after the September 11 attacks) and flat in so many ways, with a script that doesn't really fit Arnold Schwarzenegger compared to what we were used to see him in in the good ol´ 80s. And it's also clear that Arnold hasn't his heart in it, he looks lost and doesn't deliver his lines nor scenes in a confident way. The action sequences are truly high and low with a lot of poor CGI. What a truly poor film. This one needs to be forgotten.

Collateral Damage is easily my least favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger film. Despite having a potentially interesting premise, the movie falls flat due to its slow pacing, weak script, and lack of engaging action. Arnold has delivered many memorable roles, but here he feels underutilized and stuck in a story that never fully comes together. The emotional core doesn’t hit as intended, and the film struggles to build any real tension or excitement. The action scenes are surprisingly dull compared to what you’d expect, and the overall execution feels forgettable. It lacks the energy and charisma that usually make his films enjoyable. Overall, it’s a disappointing and uninspired action movie that fails to leave any impact. I’d rate it a 1/10.

Not as terrible as you would think. Yes, it's a formulaic film, but it's still pretty good!! It does have elements of the time it was made, but it's also a decent film with a decent story and one of the last really great films that Arnold did. I enjoyed it, and it's still a great action film!!!
