It's International Elvis Week in Las Vegas, where the strip is flooded by a sea of King wannabes decked out in jumpsuits and sideburns. But five of the impersonators swaggering into the Riviera Hotel are toting heavy weaponry in their guitar cases. It's the heist of a lifetime, orchestrated by ex-con Michael (Kurt Russell) and his cunning former cellmate, Murphy (Kevin Costner). The crooked Elvises steal away with $3.2 million, leaving the hotel in ruins and a high body count in their wake.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

While the premise sounds promising, the movie turns out to be a tedious and unnecessarily violent heist movie that's low on laughs and leaves no cliche unturned.

Lichtenstein grooves on bullets and blood and bedlam, but there's no grace, no drama, no sense of honor to the violence. Go to Full Review Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle Feb 26, 2001

With his mean-stud swagger, brushed-back coiffure, scimitar-shaped sideburns and a wardrobe that reeks of white trash sartorial splendor, Costner certainly looks the part of a sneaky-snakey ex-convict with grand plans and a short fuse. The Tarantino effect is very much in evidence in this trashy, senseless, and excessively violent actioner about a casino heist that goes uproariously awry. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Renaissance M @RenaissanceMan Jun 29, 2026 This film simply defies explanation, so I won't try explaining it. A heist/action film that is beyond silly and somehow features Ice T. Watch it, maybe? See more Brandt A @RT98289659 Mar 26, 2026 This is a total guy movie. The violence, the guns sex ,money and women. I like the dynamic between Costner and Russel. They're best friends and partners and they trust each other about as far as you can throw one of them. Kevin Cosner is a badass, a role he doesn't play too much of. I don't understand why. He plays a good tough guy. This is a movie you can turn your brain off with and just enjoy the ride. Courtney Cox is a breath of fresh air too🥵 See more Phil S @Philster2 Feb 26, 2026 Fantastic action packed thrill of Elvis Impersonators!
