Matt Scudder (Liam Neeson), formerly part of the NYPD, now works as an unlicensed private detective. His latest client is a drug trafficker (Dan Stevens) whose wife was kidnapped and brutally murdered, and as Scudder delves deeper, he finds that the crime's sequence is the modus operandi of the perpetrators. Before they can strike again and destroy other lives, Scudder races through the backstreets of New York to catch the killers, blurring the lines between lawful and criminal as he goes.

Critics Consensus

A Walk Among the Tombstones doesn't entirely transcend its genre clichés, but it does offer Liam Neeson one of his more compelling roles in recent memory, and that's often enough.

Frank's film is much more of a noir outing than a straight action feature, and Neeson slips right into the tone and feel of the hard-boiled detective offering.

As a throwback to a type of nasty, ugly crime film of yesteryear, A Walk Among the Tombstones cleans up.

As nauseating as the film's inventive sadisms can be, Frank succeeds far more in the details than in the larger picture that tries to relate this world to ours.

It's not always perfect and may run a touch too long but it works heartily as a well-greased, appropriately artful affair.

It's an appealing, engaging, and solidly assembled picture with style to spare, and here's hoping it's not the last time Frank and Neeson bring Scudder to the screen.

What makes A Walk Among the Tombstones so satisfying is the script and direction of Scott Frank.

8/10 Crime movie with Liam Neson. He’s an old drunk cop in mid 2000’s NYC. Bad guy is Hopper from Stranger things Has to help stop gay couple who kidnap and cut up girls Really good movie Thriller, crime, sad old cop, NYC

A very dark movie with a lot of hidden indirect violence, but with a good thread of hardly predictable interactions. Liam is fitting and excellent for this part. Good directing and perfect sets. 8/10 points.

Liam Neeson shines as the hard boiled detective here. I love these types of movies and I think A Walk Among The Tombstones is one of the better additions. Its much more of a slow burn thriller as opposed to some of Neeson's more action-packed films. The story does drag at times and there were a few choices at the end that I felt held it back. But overall, this was a solid little detective story.

Liam Nelson hunts down a couple sadistic serial killers in a film noir action movie. I would've preferred they made it more of a mystery than action movie, but it was entertaining.
