See more 02/04/2021 As a trans man, I have the room to say that this film's plot is disturbing. A cis man takes center stage, lying to a lesbian to trick her into a relationship and raping her by deception. Having lgbtq people writing and directing doesn't mean that the film is, or should be, considered "a good lgbtq story". You can be queer and still have common sense completely evade you. This film is an inaccurate portrayal of how real lgbtq persons live. Trans men are more than their sex assigned at birth. No sane lesbian would decide to date a lying rapist- especially after she finds out he's been lying about being transgender for an extended time. The idea that lgbtq people wrote this narrative and played it off as a comedy sickens me. The ending of this film should swap places with the end of "Boys Don't Cry"— because that would be accurate. See more dave d @RT34924333 01/08/2021 A funny and cerebral film, 'Adam' will not be everyone's cup of tea and it's far from perfect, but a trans male filmmaker (Rhys Ernst) with a lesbian writer (Ariel Schrag--who adapted her book for the big screen), shows how far we have come over the years. Consider watching 'Disclosure', a Netflix documentary film from 2020 where they illustrate how the negative belief of trans folk come out of stereotypes set up by TV shows and film. It's damning. Here we have a mostly positive portrait of the trans community in a film set in 2006 and it's just awe inspiring to realize the steps that have been made, but also how far from equality we all for every human. If you're anti-trans, you'll hate this. If you aren't comfortable in your own skin, you will hate this. If using your head for more than a hat rack is too much for you, you will hate this. Why did so many trolls, I mean people have a problem with a 17 year old male in a romance with a slightly older female after having no problem with the romance in Call Me by your Name? Yea makes no sense to me either. It's a film that makes you think and can expand your mind. It's buoyed by a relatively unknown cast except for SNL alum Ana Gasteyer who has little more than a cameo. Nicholas Alexander is a talent to watch and there are real trans actors here which gives the film a lived in feeling. And what a great ending. It ends the way it should. Also Adam is a minor who has sex with an adult, he also lies to a lesbian about who he is in order have sex with her! Which is sexual assault!!!!
