Critics Consensus

Sacha Baron Cohen goes back to a familiar well with diminishing returns in Who Iz I?, a scattershot comedy with some amusing pranks that otherwise only serves to underscore Ali G's faded satirical value.

Who Iz I was never going to be great, but compared to the recent slate of documentaries and unscripted movies released, it seems especially out of step.

Whether he’s considered repugnant or delightful, Sacha Baron Cohen has always elicited a strong reaction. "Ali G: Who Iz I?" does not. After a quarter of a century pushing boundaries, that makes this his most offensive project yet.

Ali G: Who Iz I? is a solid outing for Cohen, and perfect for the streaming era — you can just skip through the bits that don’t click.

For Ali G diehards — is that a thing? Blink twice if you need help — this is probably required viewing. Sociology, psychology, anthropology, and political science students should probably watch and write term papers.
