Without the central relationship between the adult sisters as a compass I don’t know if Jackson’s approach would work at all. But McClure and Ingram are first-rate, as vivid in their unspoken understanding as they are in their easygoing banter.

The love in this movie is palpable in the gaze of the director, the nuance of the script, and the embodied and spoken language of the cast. I felt like I was witnessing a very intimate conversation and was grateful for the privilege as I held my breath so as not to disrupt with my presence.

THIS MOVIE WAS GARBAGE. SHOTS WERE TOO TIGHT AND VERY VERY WEIRDLY COMPOSED... EVERYBODY IN THE MOVIE LOOKED POSSESSED. THE MOVIE WAS LONG AND DRAWN OUT, BORING, FELL ASLEEP 9 TIMES. YOU NEED A LOT OF MUSHROOMS TO WATCH THIS MOVIE. I JUST CAN'T.

All Dirt Roads Taste of Salt is an intriguing and at times beautful film. But I also found it a frustrating one, one that lingered without giving any dramatic punch. It's painfully slow to the point of being inert. It's a sparsely worded and deeply emotional film that I couldn't really connect with. This is the directoral debut for Raven Jackson and you can see the talent. The film is non-linear and at times confusing. It mainly follows Mack, a Mississippi woman over some decades. We see vignettes through out the film concerning her family. It's a mysterious and evocative film, but one I found a little hard to get into.

I can appreciate that this is supposed to be more of a visual depiction of the human condition and how we form bonds with each other, but it’s still incredibly boring and slower than waiting for a pot of water to boil. There’s virtually no dialogue or discernible plot, and the scenes are not shown chronologically. If I didn’t watch it while on a plane, I would’ve been upset I wasted 90 minutes.
