Analyze This is a sharp and unexpectedly heartfelt comedy that thrives on the unlikely pairing of Robert De Niro’s intimidating mob boss and Billy Crystal’s neurotic therapist. The film cleverly balances humor with subtle emotional depth, exploring themes of vulnerability, control, and the human need for connection—even in the most absurd circumstances. De Niro’s restrained yet hilarious turn contrasts brilliantly with Crystal’s neurotic energy, creating a dynamic that carries the film through its predictable beats. Director Harold Ramis injects just enough wit and timing to keep the story engaging, while the supporting cast adds flavor without overwhelming the central relationship. Though it occasionally relies on familiar “fish out of water” comedy setups, Analyze This remains entertaining, intelligent, and surprisingly touching—a 4-star comedy that’s both funny and surprisingly insightful.

The film's premise may be a fairly one-dimensional one - Mafia boss goes to psychiatrist for help with anxiety - but boy is it funny. 'Laugh out loud' has become a deeply annoying phrase but I can't really use any other to describe my reaction to several wonderful lines in the movie. I adore Robert De Niro in comedy roles and here he's a blast. When he cries it makes me cry too - with laughter. Billy Crystal is equally good as the poor sod charged with dealing with the mobster's 'issues'. Really good stuff.

Analyse This has become my go-to for laughs and general enjoyment. Personally, I can't fault it, to a point because of my admiration for Harold Ramis. Could the story have been better? Of course! But what we got is perfect the way it is. Even in 2025 the movie works. Just enjoy!
