What to Know

Critics Consensus

Assassin's Creed is arguably better made (and certainly better cast) than most video game adaptations; unfortunately, the CGI-fueled end result still is still a joylessly overplotted slog.

Although this story of multiple timelines provides some interesting moments, the cryptic, excessive, often extremely muffled dialogue makes the film excruciatingly hard to follow. Go to Full Review

One is left wracking brains as to why these talented people wasted so much time. It's not even the best videogame adaptation released in the past 12 months. Come back, Angry Birds. All is forgiven. Go to Full Review

I had fun with “Assassin’s Creed” particularly with its wildly unique (and admittedly wacky) story. It also doesn’t hurt to have this level of acting talent in front of the camera. Go to Full Review

Kurzel's brooding, internalized work often appears through a literal or figurative haze, which doesn't help matters. Go to Full Review

Jade Coyote 01/07/2022 good acting good action weak writing and story telling See more Aaron S @RT28490698 Apr 22 Reading the professional reviews, it is like dejavu in reading professional reviews for Avengers movies; or reviews from those of "professional" video game critics. While the writing could be better, this movie was intended for fans of the series who have the background knowledge of the AC universe. Those who lack that knowledge may have a decent time, but will ultimately be left confused. From an Assassin's Creed fan watching this movie for the first time in 2026, a whole decade after release, this movie was fantastic. All of the little details that make up the AC universe were on displayed and represented in a new and interesting way. And I believe current AC fans will enjoy it much more than the AC fans of 2016 ever could. While not one for one; from the cut of the finger, to a new take on the Bleeding Affect and a movable animus; this movie excellently takes its liberties of making the Assassin's Creed universe a reality while still respecting the original source material. That said, for me, this was a good movie and just as enjoyable as Prometheus, thereto notedly, MF was, per usual, conveying his enigmatic presence on screen that made this film intriguing too. I can’t recall ever watching a movie he starred in that I didn’t enjoy and I thought the film included a good array of cast members who I found, as an onlooker seeking escapism, brought the film to life See more Reina A. @KilljoySince2017 Feb 21 .
