And also when Charlotte said to her grandmother, "because I’m your family, you’re supposed to take care of me." God! It was so hunting. That fragility, that soft defiance — it’s pure magic. The film feels like a poem in motion. Who cares if it’s melodramatic? That’s the point. It’s about fleeting love, mortality, and beauty. Boring genric music and everything else about it subpar. It goes from creepy/awkward with the relationship to just flat out boring in the middle to just ok at the end. Ryder & Gere are passable but don't really have any chemistry together. None of the characters are that likeable, it feels like its' trying to tug on heartstrings, and feels like there isn't really any clear story between the two of them and mostly focuses on Gere being a jerk. But he's never likeable like say High Infidelity, he just keeps making dick moves with no real explanation why. It feels so forced how they get together out of nowhere and how she's not creeped out at all. Also, Ryder doesn't look sick at all so it's hard to believe she's terminally ill when she looks peak and fit 99% of the time. The middle gets so boring focusing o him sleeping with his ex and drags adding nothing and I have no idea why she'd get back with him after that.
