What to Know

Critics Consensus

Although the film isn't as bad as feared (it wasn't pre-screened for reviews), it's not that good, either. Most noticable flaws are the sappy romantic cliches and lack of chemistry between Gere and Ryder.

Richard Gere’s phoniest acting tic has to be the way that he tosses back his head and laughs, in ”spontaneous” delight, at his romantic costar. Go to Full Review Emanuel Levy Variety Jul 21, 2007

Utterly banal, Joan Chen's tediously sappy romance is a kind of modern-day Love Story (a better film!) with a "twist": Richard Gere's suave lover is old enough to be Winona Ryder's father. Go to Full Review Tim Cogshell Boxoffice Magazine Jun 5, 2002

"Autumn in New York" is made to tug at our heartstrings. But with its rote story line, the film proves to be little more than pretty eye candy in the form of stars Richard Gere and Winona Ryder. Go to Full Review Mark Steyn The Spectator Feb 2, 2018

thiago S @Thiagostone Mar 19, 2026 Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom See more Monty G @Montyginger Jan 1, 2026 Winona Ryder is always a pleasure to watch and this movie is visually stunning. I also cried at the end. And also when Charlotte said to her grandmother, "because I’m your family, you’re supposed to take care of me." God! It was so hunting. See more 2000's Barbie T @Thedoll May 16, 2025 The cinematography is stunning, the atmosphere is dreamy and elegant, and Winona gives one of her most tender, heartbreaking performances. That fragility, that soft defiance — it’s pure magic. The film feels like a poem in motion. Who cares if it’s melodramatic? That’s the point. It’s about fleeting love, mortality, and beauty. And the soundtrack? Devastating in the best way. See more Kathryn V @RT32297663 Feb 2, 2025 Dissapointed in Gere doing this movie, some of the scenes and huge age gap. The movie just didn't work at all. Tacky bad movie. See more Kirsten W @kirght Mar 22, 2024 There are a few moments that I love in this movie.
