It's been nearly two years since Superman's colossal battle with Zod devastated the city of Metropolis. The loss of life and collateral damage left many feeling angry and helpless, including crime-fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne. Convinced that Superman is now a threat to humanity, Batman embarks on a personal vendetta to end his reign on Earth, while the conniving Lex Luthor launches his own crusade against the Man of Steel.

Critics Consensus

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice smothers a potentially powerful story -- and some of America's most iconic superheroes -- in a grim whirlwind of effects-driven action.

Let's not make any bones about it - on any scale, Dawn of Justice is painful to watch.

It is without question an important film today, and a quintessential product of the America we inhabit.

There is much to claw through here, so much so that the audience might easily find themselves exhausted from the overall aggression of the film. However, a lot of the story does work. The action is good, and the emotion feels real most of the time.

There’s real thematic meat here...but then Doomsday arrives and...it regresses into a repeat of the overblown finale of Man of Steel.

With a well-painted influence from the Man of Steel’s darkened hues and dramatic imaging, Batman v Superman is a very naturalistic story with a somber script.

I can’t believe I paid like 30 bucks just to sit through 2 hours of nothing and watch Batman fight Superman in a 5 min lame-ass fight.

A tragic waste of Cavill's talent and admittedly, one of the best Batman sequences ever filmed. In all other respects, appallingly bad.

This is a really good superhero movie. Compared to DC movies, it stands out, and while it has its flaws, I thoroughly enjoyed the good parts. Look on the bright side of this movie.
