Rather than going back to the original fairy tale by Mme. Leprince de Beaumont and reenvisioning it, the film reformats the studios cherished animated original with actors and computer-animated special FX. It's less a remake than a replication.

Emma Watson is a terrible Belle. She just doesn’t have the innocence of the original animated Belle. Gaston (Evans) is too old for the part. The father should have white hair; distinguishing feature of the father. The Beast is good. Definitely zero chemistry between Belle and the Beast.
