Critics Consensus

It springs from smarter ideas than your average chase thriller, but ultimately, Black Rock falls back on disappointingly familiar ingredients.

Black Rock is much more complex than your average run-of-the-mill "run from danger, pretty lady" kind of movie.

Slender, but committed: even Kate Bosworth, as the girls' team leader, forswears her usual lipgloss.

Kate Bosworth’s performance is the only one that was above average but her character has issues I can’t go into without spoilers, making this film even more forgettable...

A nice, taut thriller, full of tension and atmosphere. A well-paced survival tale, it mostly knows when to speed up and slow down.

Together with cinematographer Hillary Spera, [Katie Aselton] plays with the camera and visual angles, utilizing the often forgotten art of the dissolve to wonderful effect.

This movie is just stupid... Blondie Gal invited 2 friends of hers to go to an island, I guess hangout. Problem besides all the stupid talk at the beginning is that one of Blondie's friend invited on the trip screwed the boyfriend of the other gal Blondie invited on this trip. How was this a good idea?! They meet 3 Guys and Abby flirts, leads this Guy on, makes out with him, then wants to stop? Plus she's married! Question, I'm a Guy and do women really say all this stuff and act like this?! Holy Crap!

I love this freaking movie .I know it's not perfectly written, or a blockbuster or masterpiece, but it keeps me guessing from top to bottom. I did not expect what was going to happen , sad and good if you wanna have your girl bestie over and have a glass of wine…. this is the best freaking movie that you wanna pop in ! you'll be happy this is like a "girls dream of a thriller" just take it for what it it and don't expect too much too little It was awesome. Seriously, it really is a good ,solid movie emphasis on movie. We all have such a great time watching it, we didn't want anything heavy we wanted to be like oh wow wow this is insane "" and I did that for us and it's the perfect movie to watch with your close friends, A+ for me if you want Oscar worthy don't look at this, but it was well-made not gonna lie.

The worst movie I've seen this summer. Love yourself and avoid losing your time like I did.

idk, maybe i've been watching a lot of bad movies lately, but i didn't think this was that terrible. i'm not sure it does anything ground-breaking but it's definitely a decent watch.
