Critics Consensus

Blood Father meets every expectation a film fan could have for a latter-day Mel Gibson action thriller with its title -- and even, in some respects, handily exceeds them.

The dialogue goes like a Gatling gun and the action is its match.

Blood Father boasts enough momentum and lively banter to compensate for any generic leanings. Robert Gantz' scorched cinematography keeps the heat on, even during quieter moments.

Some of the dialogue sounds a little written, though Gibson's tendency to bellow his lines like a wounded bull elephant compensates and carries us along with the story.

‘Blood Father’ delivers the throwback action goods and guttural Mel Gibson performance that anyone considering watching might hope for.

Mel Gibson might not be able to leap through dozens of stunt sequences anymore, but the man has lost none of his psychological vigor or resolve. His brand of crazy still works in this throwback actioner.

The story is totally absurd, but overall I can't say that I didn't enjoy it. Mel Gibson is awesome.

The father-daughter relationship is funny, the action is good, the cast is great and the story a bit ridiculous.

Just terrible: Mel’s overacting, the trite story, the too-much-talk-in-a-shoot-em-up script. HOWEVER, if yer still in middle-school and barely make Cs, you MIGHT like it.
