Critics Consensus

The surfing sequences are exhilarating, but the plot is pretty forgettable and trite.

Surfing is extreme sport, but only so-so cinema. When you've seen one wave, you've seen them all: so it soon looks. All the babes who do the surfing in John Stockwell's youth-cult romance also come off an assembly line of blonde bimbos.

The movie isn't nearly dumb enough to be much beach fun.

The cinematography is spectacular -- viewers are placed on top of, in the middle of, and under the waves -- but the story is a narrative wipeout almost from the start.

If you’re into surfing, gorgeous landscapes and need some low-brow mush to watch on a cosy weekend, Blue Crush fits the bill perfectly.

Story wise Blue Crush falls flat when it is on land, but the surfing scenes are spectacular.

I can’t say much good about this movie. The storyline is weak, the acting is poor, and it’s just incredibly boring. The only reason it gets one star is for the music.
