After her marriage to a wealthy businessman (Alec Baldwin) collapses, New York socialite Jasmine (Cate Blanchett) flees to San Francisco and the modest apartment of her sister, Ginger (Sally Hawkins). Although she's in a fragile emotional state and lacks job skills, Jasmine still manages to voice her disapproval of Ginger's boyfriend, Chili (Bobby Cannavale). Jasmine begrudgingly takes a job in a dentist's office, while Ginger begins dating a man (Louis C.K.) who's a step up from Chili.

Let me tell you how I found out about this movie. I heard somebody mentioning it on Youtube and when I heard what’s it about I was f*ckn sold. It’s about a socialite Jasmine who basically lost everything and was forced to move to her sister who lives with her two kids and has a completely opposite lifestyle of what Jasmine was used to. She got a taste of what it’s like to have a job, forget about the comfort and to face the same challenges ordinarily people have to deal with in the everyday life. This was entertaining and sometimes painful to watch how she was struggling because Kate was so convincing, she nailed it. I really enjoyed watching this movie.

GREAT MOVIE!!! Woody Allen does it again........Cinema brilliance!! Superb cast and Cate Blanchett is hysterical as she unravels in this movie gem! It's great to see her playing this out of sorts character who seems all too real - like someone everyone knows in life. The supporting cast is ridiculously good as well! Lot's of laughs too! A MUST WATCH!!!

73%. 8/22/25. Alex loves it because it feels relatable for women. I thought it was solid. Cate's character is not only logically depressed, but also lacks awareness and is tough to root for. There really aren't likable characters. I do like how they go back and forth from the past and present, and slowly reveal how Cate ended up where she is. Was a good twist when you realize she snitched on her husband and basically put herself in that position. Lots of irony with her smack talking her sister's relationship choices when her ex husband lost all their money. Decent film, just couldn't get that into it. 2/5 rewatch
