Although it explores trenchant conflict on personal, familial and cultural levels, there is nothing sensational about it. The vast Texas landscape is a character itself, one which breathes into the story, and which we get to experience in its quiet consistency. David Morse is brilliant as Carson -- and the friendship that evolves between Carson and Jaklyn is a testament to what is redeeming about humanity. Storytelling with this kind of humility, maturity and grace is hard to come by these days. Highly recommended.
