In Berlin in 1931, American cabaret singer Sally Bowles (Liza Minnelli) meets British academic Brian Roberts (Michael York), who is finishing his university studies. Despite Brian's confusion over his sexuality, the pair become lovers, but the arrival of the wealthy and decadent playboy Maximilian von Heune (Helmut Griem) complicates matters for them both. This love triangle plays out against the rise of the Nazi party and the collapse of the Weimar Republic.

It’s alright. Watched it in film class. I won’t call it a masterpiece, but I enjoyed Liza Minnelli as Sally Bowles and the music was catchy. I wouldn’t recommend it for kids, but I feel like there’s a lot of things in this movie that adults can enjoy. I thought the shots were cool too.

"Cabaret" shows the dangers of distraction, the dangers of being uninformed. That freedom is beautiful, and if you want to enjoy it, you need to protect it. It questions what we as humans do in the face of evil. And that ending, when it turns the reflection of a mirror on the Cabaret audience to reveal it is filled with Nazis. That they sit among you. It asks you to question yourself, who you surround yourself with, who you trust. As an American, I think we need Cabaret now more than ever. I watched this film after watching neighbors hide from ICE vehicles, after seeing the faces of those killed by them all over the news. Families are being torn apart, racism is being encouraged, and our freedoms are being erased. For everyone, no matter your political standing. None of us are safe from this. Yet, we bury ourselves in distractions. Bear Cups, Labubus, so many pointless things that mean nothing compared to human life. This movie is a warning. Open your eyes and do something.

Liza Minelli had the greatest musical performance ever. However, the slow pace of the film keeps it from being the all-time greatest musical. More singing and less talking would have made this even more of a classic. "Tomorrow Belongs to Me," sung by the Hitler Youth and the villagers at an outside dining pub is one of the most haunting musical scenes of all time.

I'm a huge fan of most musicals. This one is NO exception. I just think the music is FABULOUS and the storyline is wonderful. I'm not a fan of the time period it took place in, but I don't pay attention to that. LOL.
