A daredevil (Burt Reynolds) and other characters (Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett) get in their cars and take off on a cross-country race.

Critics Consensus

Cannonball Run casts a bevy of famous faces as its wacky racers but forgets to give them characters to play, resulting in 90 dull minutes that feel like a marathon.

Nonsense but fun nevertheless with a crazy ensemble cast of celebrities of the era.

Full of terribly inside showbiz jokes and populated by what could be called Burt and Hal's Rat Pack, film takes place in that redneck never-never land where most of the guys are beer-guzzling good ole boys and all the gals are fabulously built tootsies.

The Cannonball Run is an abdication of artistic responsibility at the lowest possible level of ambition. In other words, they didn't even care enough to make a good lousy movie.

The movie doesn't go beyond repeating a formula of parallel stories. [Full Review in Spanish]

Cannonball Run exists somewhere in between being a last bastion of an 'old boys' Hollywood comedy, versus offering a wry send-up of those values.

I love this film for what it is. This is not something winning an academy award.

If you like slapstick weird dated humor, then this is for you. It's really stupid, especially the beginning, but it's really fun to get to know all the competitors and the comedic gags that follow them. Also, I love that title. Had the subject matter been taken more seriously and done more professionally, it could have been one of the best racing/car movies ever. This movie is literally a kid's daydream of what his Hot Wheels do when he's not home. I wish they held cannonball run races. I'd bring my Dodge Demon 170 :)
