Critics Consensus

Cars 3 has an unexpectedly poignant story to go with its dazzling animation, suggesting Pixar's most middle-of-the-road franchise may have a surprising amount of tread left.

Cars 3 is a decent reconstituted Rocky with a bizarre faux feminist subplot and beautiful animation. Go to Full Review

Cars 3, which picks up where the first, perfectly adequate, film left off, is by far the best instalment in the series. Go to Full Review

It's a colourful, spry enough ride, but it doesn't exactly reinvent the wheel. Go to Full Review

Julian 09/21/2024 informative but boring See more Maks M @SpecOdHec 2d Absolute cinema. Beautiful end of the trilogy. Surprisingly mature story about getting old and finding your place in constantly changing and developing world. See more Michael P @MikeP29 2d I was impressed with this one I've been watching the cars movies with my son and this is a good one. Technically it's solid movie with great animation and actually some great racing scenes and is paced pretty well. The story is great and a really solid juxtaposition to the first with McQueen at opposite ends of his career, trying to find that next chapter in his life and the journey to get there. I did think some of the story was a little too much but overall it was great. The experience was overall good and it was a good time. It's not ground breaking but better than ok See more Benjamin W. @Code70 Jan 25 A decent sendoff for the Cars franchise. It’s got good character work in it, with Lightning getting older and nearing retirement, and now he’s training a whole new generation of racers to follow in his footsteps. And ultimately, it’s a satisfying sendoff for these characters. But, it is a bit slow and dull, and can be quite meandering in the middle act. Also, the third act is kinda clunky, and the pull a weird “twist” at the end that kinda made no sense during the race. It’s fine, it’s enjoyable enough, just nothing special.
