Marco L @decatur555 Oct 22, 2026 The title already contains the film's central idea: before there is a victim, a name or a shattered life, there is Case 137, another file to process. Dominik Moll embraces that institutional coldness in a rigorous police procedural built from videos, testimony, regulations and contradictory accounts. Léa Drucker is excellent as an IGPN investigator forced to examine fellow officers while navigating professional loyalty and the search for truth. My problem is that the film's deliberate detachment worked better for me intellectually than emotionally. For too long I felt I was following a file rather than people, and it only gained real blood once the case became more personal for Stéphanie. Serious, precise and admirably free of sensationalism, but also rather dry. Its examination of institutional self-protection is stronger than its emotional impact. She is particularly diligent in her investigation, perhaps because the victim comes from her home town. This becomes an issue at the end of the case. The lead actress is superb, every emotion showing on her face. It’s the mixture of the personal and political that makes this film so good. It never drags and keeps you in thrall to the story throughout. And the issues it confronts are not confined to France. Told in a realistic, documentary-style manner, the film explores police brutality, systemic flaws, bureaucracy, and the fragile relationship between law enforcement and the public. Centered on Stéphanie Bertrand, an officer determined to uncover the truth despite immense pressure, the film is a hard-hitting and unsettling experience that quietly leaves a lasting impact.
