When a lone drifter with partial memory loss, Isaac, accepts a job to look after his landlord's niece, Olga, for a few days it all seems like easy money, but there is a caveat: he must wear a leather harness and chain that restricts his movements to certain rooms. Once Olga's uncle, Barrett, leaves the two of them alone, a game of cat and mouse ensues as Olga displays continuingly worse psychological issues. With Isaac trapped and at the mercy of Olga, he begins to discover secrets in the house that coincide with the terrifying resurgence of his own memory.

Critics Consensus

An effective spine-tingler despite clear budget constraints, Caveat suggests a deliciously dark filmmaking future for writer-director Damian Mc Carthy.

"Caveat" exists in a liminal space between genres, which is fitting for a film about the skeletons that might hide inside the walls of an old house. Go to Full Review

Things get a bit wonky along the final stretch, and the Irishman can't quite stick the landing. But there's plenty here to admire and it will be exciting to see where he goes next. Go to Full Review

I think my biggest problem with this movie is just the look of it. Most shudder-exclusive movies that I’ve seen tend to lean very heavily into the spooky house syndrome, and this movie is no exception. Go to Full Review

Gavin L @RT23842432 16h I enjoyed this. I was never sure what was coming next. A film free of tired and predictable horror tropes. It has a slow pace that may irritate some but I found this just adds to the tension. The protagonists amnesia plays perfectly into the insanity that pervades everything else in the film. It finishes at a perfect point, leaving madness behind, never truly explained - as if anyone could ever really explain such insanity. A rare and refreshing horror that uses the setting to tell it's story as much as the characters in it. See more Edgardo J @RT37824698 2d Dogshit. Can somebody explain the movie to me and pls hire a better actor for the mom role. She wa alive all the time, we could literally see her breathing. Ugly rabbit btw See more Daniel T @DanielRuben37 5d Where Caveat excels in atmosphere and mood: creepy, ominous, and veritably bursting with the uncanny, the Freudian Unheimliche (omg that toy drumming rabbit!); it lacks in plot and narrative. Unfortunately nothing much really adds up as far as the story goes, it's quite linear but in the end there are no answers, there's no logic or underlying structure to it all, cardinal points seem to be confused for catalyzers and vice versa. Maybe that was the point - maybe the narrative here is supposed to be an ironic nonsensical pastiche of a genre horror flick or something - but its very linearity with the promise of a big reveal in the air that never arrives is just maddeningly frustrating because it leaves you with a crazy bunch of unanswered questions whose answers seem to hang just out of reach. Still, it's definitely worth a watch just for the "vibe", if that's your thing. See more Wyatt N. @dubnelly Feb 9 It’s definitely spooky but the story lacks. The logic also lacks. Very dragged on moments. Just not all that good in my opinion.
