Critics Consensus

Children of Men works on every level: as a violent chase thriller, a fantastical cautionary tale, and a sophisticated human drama about societies struggling to live.

Children of Men founders in its latter moments -- not a lot, but enough. Its failure is less one of plot than of something deeper, a composing idea to undergird the plot.

A film that has much to recommend it, not least the proof it offers, as if any more were needed, that Alfonso Cuarón is one of the most visually inspired directors working today.

Alfonso Cuaron stages some terrific set-pieces, and the production designers deserve credit for making London in 2027 look like the grunge capital of the world, ie, like now, only more so. One small problem: I didn't believe any of it.

A science fiction retelling of the Nativity story that engages with that story’s themes of hope and salvation through a child.

"Children of Men is a terrifying, exhilarating, and sickening portrait of the darkest corners of humanity, but one that inspires hope all the same."

There are some genuinely good moments and twists, but this movie is just a little too slow-paced to get the ball rolling.

Inspired by a work of fiction, and set in a future not far removed from reality, Alfonso Cuarón has skilfully brought to life a story that is not of his own devising, inviting us as viewers to become part of it. In short, he has achieved something very close to perfection.

Arguably one of the greatest films ever made. A sci-fi masterpiece on every level from pacing to cinematography, to acting.

I can appreciate the movie in terms of production quality and acting. But as a story it fell a bit flat. The concept is intriguing but there was not enough story for a feature. Once you understand what the stakes are, it's just stock standard running and fighting after that.

Las actuaciones, los ambientes magistralmente elaborados, el trabajo de camara, el tema central, el principio, el final, el intermedio. ¿Olvide algo?... No importa de seguro es igual de fantastico.
