Critics Consensus

John Carpenter revs up Christine into a brisk thrill ride whose sharp direction, lively performances, and stylish flourishes make its absurd premise easy to forgive.

The film is a clever comment on the inextricable themes of masculinity and motor vehicles, summoning the energy of ’50s car culture and giving it a fearsome, eventually homicidal edge.

The movie is fun in a slick, predictable way -- it's old hat, but it's done with flash.

This movie make-over of a Stephen King chiller is adroit, stylish and empty-headed.

Carpenter can't resist the special effects that eventually turn his film into just another carnival spook-house of trick effects.
