Teacake (Joe Keery) and Naomi (Georgina Campbell), two young employees of a self-storage company built on the site of an old US military base, have their wildest night shift ever when a parasitic fungus escapes from the lowest sublevel of the base, where it was sealed by the government decades before. As the temperature rises underground, this highly contagious and rapidly mutating microorganism multiplies and unleashes its brain-controlling, body-bursting terrors on the facility's inhabitants -- human and otherwise. With time running out, it's down to Teacake and Naomi, with the help of a grizzled retired bioterror operative (Liam Neeson), to contain the merciless menace and prevent the explosive extinction of Mankind itself.

Critics Consensus

A smart but familiar B-movie throwback, Cold Storage delivers campy performances, gooey splatter, and wry sci-fi wit with infectious enthusiasm.

Romantic comedies seem harder than ever to get off the ground, at least on the big screen. Cold Storage, from British director Jonny Campbell, has an original solution: disguising itself as a splatter movie.

A clever, funny, suspenseful, interestingly cynical science-fiction horror movie with a great collection of monsters — courtesy of make-up geniuses Dave and Lou Elsey — and a cast whose enthusiasm is, appropriately, infectious.

Cold Storage offers up a lighthearted infection horror comedy that never quite heats up or succeeds on the gross-out factor.

Koepp’s gory little creature feature makes the jump to the screen with Cold Storage, a horror comedy that proudly teeters between farce and full body splatter.

Bloody Good Horror (Podcast)

An easy-breezy monster movie. It’s gross and silly and escapist, and that in and of itself is a nice reprieve from the world. Sometimes escapism is exactly what we need.

Reminiscent of the creature features of the 80s and 90s but with better production value.

Entertaining but forgettable. Easily overshadowed by older films that did it better.
