What to Know

Critics Consensus

Delivering good old-fashioned thrills thanks to director Renny Harlin's reliable genre instincts, Deep Water is an unapologetic B-movie that swims rather than sinks.

The human drama element between the passengers provides just enough context to carry this light and predictable but garish and bloody popcorn adventure. Go to Full Review

Forget anything new. Director Renny Harlin is merely spitpolishing his same old bag of shark tricks. But the dude knows how to deliver assembly line product like nobody’s business. Go to Full Review

It prefers to spend two hours rehashing elements that even newbies to shark-based cinema will find devoid of any real inspiration. Go to Full Review

More melodrama disaster film than shark movie, Eckhardt is a reliably dull lead. Still, the film has a few surprises and the crash sequence is fantastic. Go to Full Review

Renny Harlin's 27-years-later return to the realm of aquatic horror doesn't pack the same punch as his 1999 masterpiece (yes, masterpiece) Deep Blue Sea, but its a serviceable slice of disaster movie cinema. Go to Full Review

In the end, Deep Water feels less like a full plunge into the genre and more like a cautious dip. It has moments that ripple with tension, but they’re spaced too far apart to fully satisfy. Go to Full Review

Hailey 10h Really emotional, definitely an edge of your seat Rollercoaster. It was like the movie dragged me in See more Kareem 11h Its a movie about survival. See more Rebecca 1d I hate to say it, but that guy with the cigarettes deserved to be shark kibble. See more Webster P 1d This Chinese/American mash-up production gave me mad vibes for The Meg. Same story structure, impossible love plot, kids up in everyone's business, and cheesy shark effects. Not as much humor as The Meg but still fun nonetheless. See more Emilio R 1d I’ll just say that it’s nice to go to a theater and see a new Renny Harlin film. Deep Blue Sea still reigns supreme as my favorite shark movie from the veteran director. But, Deep Water is a solid effort. It harkens back to some of his best work and has a killer action set piece to boot. Seek it out on the largest screen you can find it on (preferably with the biggest bucket of popcorn and drink in hand). See more Heather K 1d I enjoyed the movie! See more Read all reviews
