Rachael H Aug 17, 2022 Although the film is 60 years old it didnt seem like it. Lots of action and stunts and an undercover fisherman from the Cayman Islands - great! See more Brett S @ReelCurmudgeon Oct 28, 2026 The first and the best, if for no other reason than the fact that there's no tricks, gimmicks, or gadgets. 007 only has his know-how. He uses a hair to tell if someone's been in his room. He uses talcum powder to tell if someone's tried to get into his briefcase. He gets the bejeezus scared out of him when a poisonous spider crawls on him in the middle of the night. He confesses to his femme fatale that he's just as scared as her. In other words, HE'S HUMAN. Yes, he's Machiavellian. Yes, he's a womanizer. But that's how the character is. Nothing means more to him than Queen and Country. And he's willing to die to preserve it (not easily, though). There's comments made here that From Russia With Love was the first movie to introduce SPECTRE, and those persons obviously didn't watch this movie very closely. Dr. No confesses himself to Bond that he belongs to SPECTRE, and multiple references are made in FRWL about avenging No's defeat at the hands of Bond. Anyway, my favorite 007.
