What to Know

Critics Consensus

Buoyed by Caleb Landry Jones' haunting lead performance and Danny Elfman's lush score, Dracula reimagines the classic vampire myth as an emotionally charged gothic romance, yet its inconsistent tone holds it back from genre-defining greatness.

Here we are again, caught up in the never-ending slow-drip flood of cinematic Dracula mythology, now with Luc Besson’s wan, derivative, dutifully time-period-hopping, different-but-not-really-new take on the vampire legend. Go to Full Review

The cast’s deliveries on Besson’s punchlines are strong, and editor Lucas Fabiani keeps up his end of the deal when it comes to timing. But not even Jones isn’t funny or magnetic enough to sustain attention without the support of real suspense and allure. Go to Full Review

This is a "Dracula" that stakes a claim to a different heart. It’s closer to the recent "Nosferatu" than you’d think and embraces production design in a way that’s more instructive than it needs to be. Go to Full Review

Although this version of Dracula has impressive costume designs, this misguided horror/romance movie is a bloated and disjointed mess with an underwhelming ending. The tone is sometimes campy, sometimes serious, with an uneven quality of acting. Go to Full Review

Francesca 4d I honestly liked the movie! I recommend watching it if you are Dracula’s fan! It strays away from the 1992 Francis Ford Coppola’s movie but I enjoyed watching this version. Although Dracula was portrayed a bit too feminine for my liking. See more Dema 6d The scenography and costume design is phenomenal however, nothing compares to the original as the performance of the actors and their selection was superb. The is the reason of one star less. See more Emily Mar 9 I think the movie is a good portrayal of longing and the feeling of love when it is taken away from you. The movie is more appreciated knowing this is a love story and not like other war based dracula movies. See more Read all reviews
