Paul describes a song he likes as existing "between euphoria and melancholia," which is the balance the movie he's in strikes as well, as interested in joy as it is in loss. Which may be the best thing these stories of not making it bring to the table.

It's a unique examination of an artist, one who experiences a brief moment of relevancy before quickly fading into obscurity, which is much sadder than being a total failure.

For fans of the history of disco ONLY. Make that the French point-of-view of the history of Disco. Movie is looong. Protagonist is uninteresting and unsympathetic (unless you like misogynists). Otherwise it wasn't bad.

Pretty poor, but to be honest I think it was the music I mainly had a problem with. I can't get excited about the bland house music they used to play in 95% of the clubs I used to go to in my 20s. Dull dull dull.

Let me start with the positives: some good 90's tunes and an accurate description of club nightlife. Not too many films have achieved that. It definitely meanders and is far too long, but i wasn't bored. However,it is essentially the tale of a DJ who never hits the true heights, and neglects friends, lovers and family. And then it ends.

This drifting look at the young adult life of a Parisian garage dj aims at trying to capture the fleeting nature of club life and the hardship of making it on the music scene. Kudos goes to trying to add realism in the screenplay but the lack of narrative depth, artistic-shaping and dramatic edge leaves you wanting a bit more to take away with.
