During a war between humans and the reptilian Drac race, spaceship pilot Willis Davidge (Dennis Quaid) ends up stranded on an alien world, along with enemy fighter Jeriba Shigan (Louis Gossett Jr.). While both Willis and his Drac counterpart can breathe on the planet, the environment and its creatures are relatively hostile, forcing the two to work together to survive. As time goes by, Willis and Jeriba become unlikely friends, though their unique relationship faces considerable challenges.

…the result stands up better than a lot of 80’s fare…Enemy Mine conjures a wild world of adventure for our human and alien protagonists, and Quaid and Gossett Jr make a nice job of charting the growing trust and alliance between their characters…

As long as Quaid and Gossett are the only actors on screen, Enemy Mine is merely average. But later on, additional characters arrive to demolish any pretense of credibility or sophistication.

one of the best SCIFI i have ever seen, well the FX are not to good from todays time the space scenes are hillaroud bad... but the interaction between 2 enemys trying to survive on a harsh planet, forcing them to work together, is what makes this movie great, and i still today only need to close my eyes to hear him sing samis legacy in front of all the Drac... epic... a movie from todays view shows something we miss in a World wich turns again into war, and destruction cuz of insane people...

This is a classic sci-fi film that is absolutely worth watching and has shown its quality over time. The acting by both leads and the quality of the story carry the movie well beyond the limitations of the special effects of the time, which are good enough to lay out the bare bones needed for the story. Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr. are incredibly genuine and authentic in their roles here. The relationship between the human and the alien is very much the heart of the movie. The conflict of the war takes on a backdrop role to the more (ironically) human element of asking ourselves to examine how we believe and act on the most important values we hold to be true. Between both of these quality actors, they carry this movie to a very heartfelt place, asking all of us to be the best version of ourselves and to not only believe in our own moral sense of love and honor (and what is the definition of what it truly means to be human) but to be able to act on our values and actually live them. I saw this movie many years ago and have always remembered it. Highly recommend.

Two fantastic central performances elevate this to near sci-fi classic. It lulls a bit in places but overall it's still very memorable and well worth a watch.

Synopsis
