In a delightfully horrifying way. Cast is solid, story is solid even with its 90s cheese but that just adds to the vibe. Still holds up in 2025, a must watch for the horror genre. It creates a sense of dread that few films have ever matched, and the atmosphere is incredible from beginning to end. Even after all these years, it holds up. For years I’ve heard people talk about the lost director’s cut and how they wish it could be restored. But after watching the theatrical version again, I’m not so sure. The deleted scenes were reportedly even more graphic and disturbing than what made it into the final film. Honestly, do we really need to see that? The movie is already intense enough, and sometimes what your imagination fills in is far scarier than showing everything on screen. It’s a horror classic exactly as it is. It may be the fact that some people are critiquing it as a science fiction movie, when in fact, it is a horror movie with a SPACE setting. I saw this move in the theaters as a kid( yes, I know) and I loved it then, and love it still to this day. Sam Neil does an excellent job playing both a scientific pioneer as well as a sinister force. The true core of the movie explores the depths of not space, but reality itself, and essentially places us in a setting where we we were not meant to be. The Event Horizon crosses the path of no return, and therefore, harbors all the memories it has experienced through space and time ( and beyond) .This movie’s true concept is to explore the idea of not only confronting the unknown, but that some things are meant to be unknown to humans for a reason.
