Critics Consensus

This Father of the Bride is far from the first to take a trip down the aisle, but it smartly diverges from its predecessors while reaffirming the story's timeless charm.

Funny and sweet, and while it’s predictable...brings more relevance and diversity to the story.

The prospect of Andy Garcia and Gloria Estefan in a Miami Cuban-flavoured remake of Father of the Bride is an intriguing one. Sadly, this new movie strips out everything that made the 1991 Steve Martin version so special.

I applaud the celebration of cultural diversity most of all, and secondarily the more evolved perspective on weddings and relationships... But the writing really falls short, and it's not particularly funny.

Seeing this story from a Latin perspective offers a fresh spin on a well-worn story. Andy Garcia is perfect as the uptight dad and the pairing with Gloria Estefan is more than amusing.

The clashes between the clans raises the occasional smile, but screenwriter Billy Lopez's humour is mostly heavy handed.

I skimmed thru 4 years of mixed reviews here by PopcornMeter people & was hesitant to invest 2 hours in here because of the handful who said this was terrible, a waste of time, too-woke-remake, etc. I just finished it &: A] The whole reason I watched it is because I just fell in love with the gorgeous Adria Arjona (Sophie) from that new iPhone 18 commercial. I found out who she is & googled her movies. And then chose this 1 to watch instead of the Hit Man (I already saw that before I became infatuated by this most beautiful actress). B] Lot of complaints about stuff from some of you & many about "woke" so let me preface this here. I hate woke. I'm as conservative as anyone. I hate shows who jam woke stuff at us. I won't watch it. I don't like gay stuff. I really dislike the alphabet+ mafia & I literally hate the crazy trans-psychos. C] that being said, I thought this movie was very funny, good & not that woke! I give it about an 87, but bump to 89 because Adria is a 99 ❤️

I really enjoyed Father of the Bride. It is a sweet, heartwarming, and entertaining movie that is easy to watch. The cast has great chemistry, and there are many funny and emotional moments throughout the film. Although the storyline is quite cliché and predictable, it still manages to be enjoyable because of its charm and the strong family relationships it portrays. Overall, I think it’s a nice feel-good movie that is worth watching.
