Comically twisting the source genre away from the concept of the Final Girl, Fresh celebrates female camaraderie, resourcefulness, and good humour in the face of monstrous behaviour. Go to Full Review

It’s as subtle as a sledgehammer, but Fresh’s audacious storytelling, full-throated performances and accomplished direction make for a tasty, wildly entertaining concoction. Go to Full Review

As a statement of intent from two emerging filmmakers -- this is Kahn’s second feature script -- Fresh makes a potent impression. It’s stylish and smart where it counts, even if it occasionally veers into the unnecessarily didactic. Go to Full Review

Jeffrey P @vanillavoodoo1 1d Disturbing and macabre taboo subject matter that doesn’t captvate as much as it could and feels rushed in the end. See more Penny L @WhosMomAreYou Feb 4 This movie is delicious! The setting is disturbing and dark in a way finished, well decorated homes only can be. It’s a realistic, in your home horror that sticks with you. Sebastian Stan nailed it! He was so charming and charismatic that as a viewer you completely let your guard down with him. That only made the horrific things he did more terrifying. Daisy Edgar-Jones deserves an award for her performance. She nailed it with the layers of apathy, despair, terror, and rage. I was rooting for her the entire time. There were so many nods to classic horrors in this film, like The Shining, Silence of the Lambs, and of course American Psycho. This movie wasn’t gory or filled with jump scares but I was unsettled and afraid almost the entire time. This one deserves a theatrical release and cult following for sure! I’ll be looking out for more from this director and writer. Loved every minute! See more Ana V @anavillas Jan 30 Fresh (2022) presents a disturbing allegory about women’s existence within a patriarchal and misogynistic society. Disguised as a contemporary horror thriller, the film offers a sharp social critique of toxic heterosexual masculinity and its mechanisms of domination. The narrative reveals how men strategically target emotionally and socially vulnerable women, gradually isolating them from their support systems and consuming their autonomy, identity, and self-worth. Cannibalism functions as a powerful metaphor for the symbolic and material violence imposed on women, reducing their bodies to commodities and their rights to negotiable privileges. The film exposes a heteronormative structure that promises love and safety while delivering control, erasure, and abuse. By provoking discomfort and revulsion, Fresh forces viewers to confront a reality that is not fictional but structural: a society that consumes women while pretending to protect them. Noa escapes Steve's cannibalistic nightmare by eating human flesh, seducing her torturer, and biting off his balls, weaponizing the same commodification he inflicted on his victims. Cave refuses catharsis entirely, showing survival as complicity rather than triumph. The Final Girl trope gets gutted here. Victory demands Noa adopt the oppressor's logic, reducing herself to meat in the same patriarchal system that wanted to consume her. The film functions as a brutal metaphor for women navigating predatory structures where escape requires becoming monstrous. Fresh understands that surviving assault doesn't make you whole. The final frames refuse easy resolution because victory looks like complicity and escape looks like monstrosity, and that honesty cuts deeper than any triumph could.
