Krystle B @RT33533819 Jan 24 This movie is so stereotypically 80s it's amazing. I loved the music, the wardrobe, the plot — it was all pretty great! Except the characters weren't super likable or relatable. I did enjoy Helen Hunt's character, but the rest were take it or leave it. And while it is a movie about dancing, I would have preferred more story versus a ton of dance scenes. There's so much more that could have been developed outside of that, and I really feel like it missed the mark. But, over all, a great watch! See more Thomas D @RT35641053 08/24/2024 It's Hairspray without the wit. It's Dirty Dancing without the charisma. It's every 80s coming off age film without the script or acting. I was truly bored the entire time and cared very little for any of the characters. Helen Hunt was the only glimmer of talent, but her "character arc" is dull and unbelievable; they hold multiple auditions for dancers in a crowd, but a 16 year old girl strolls on stage in a chariot and just makes herself Miss Dance TV? Okay. For a dance movie, the dance and rehearsal scenes did very little to inspire me. It was more like a Midwest aerobics class than a dance hall. But that's the 80s for ya.
