Critics Consensus

Gold boasts an impressively committed performance from Matthew McConaughey, but it's just one glittering nugget in an otherwise uneven heap of cinematic silt.

[Matthew McConaughey's] scenes in the jungle with dashing geologist Edgar Ramírez are much duller than those in the movie's latter half.

Gaghan never catches you up in Wells's gold-fever dream, so the movie, like his plan, falls apart. His attempt to impose a mock-heroic template on the material, doesn't fit.

Despite McConaughey's commitment to the role, his Kenny is more pathetic than sympathetic, which makes caring about him for two hours a difficult task.

A movie that is completely hollow and only saved by Matthew McConaughey's committed performance.

It's a dark comedy, a satire of capitalism gone wrong, a critique of corporate greed, and a human drama about a loser who thought he finally made it big. And moreover, the film does none of these modes well.

The maxim states that all that glitters is not gold, and that's certainly true. In the case of Gold, it's more like a shattered disco ball, promising dazzlement but delivering only a few fleeting glints of illumination.

theres a bit of nonsense in here, it's a bit longer than it needs to be, and it's kind of a weaker version of and/or follow up to wolf of wall street, but it's a reasonable watch.

Not a great movie, but enough of a story to make it worth a watch.

Again Matthew McConaughey, gives a great performance enhance his reputation. an under rated movie which I feel with time will be a near classic. A great story line too.

Way better than the critics or the audience score. Really enjoyed the story. Matthew McConaughey was outstanding in this role. Ignore the ratings, worth the watch.
