Technically sleek but narratively weightless, it relies on visual wizardry to distract from a bare-bones story. The film opens with long, beautiful shots and an impressive sense of spatial immersion — then spends the next hour dragging out an extremely thin plot with endless close-ups of Sandra Bullock breathing. The setup is stronger than the payoff. Once the tension wears off, whats left is a hollow journey through increasingly implausible obstacles. It's not profound, it's not moving — it's just long. I know we're supposed to suspend disbelief when we walk into a theater, but Gravity asks you to check your brain, along with all logic and reason, at the door. It's like being asked to believe someone could win every state lottery... on the same day. One miraculous escape? Sure. Maybe even two. But Gravity piles one near-death escape on top of another until the tension starts working against itself. Instead of thinking, "How is she going to survive this?" I found myself thinking, "Here we go again." It's the first movie I can remember almost walking out of. The relentless string of impossibly timed disasters killed the movie for me. See more Johnny D @RT45242996 Jul 24 Visually stunning & fast paced. The plot & acting are decent & it’s a thriller that actually keeps you watching. I’d recommend seeing it at a theatre & with a date, if you intend to actually watch the movie that is… Sandra Bullock pulls off the fish out-of-water or in this case, novice astronaut-scientist out-of-earth protagonist who finds herself & rest of crew trapped in space. From there the movie doesn’t really slow down for much, so pee before entering. Luckily, it’s also only 1.5 hrs long, but feels much shorter. If you want a realistic "sci-fi" movie, that doesn’t have a bunch of superheroes in leather, you’ll enjoy this film. See more Darja S @darjasuri Jul 22 A solid film with a genuinely gripping premise. I kept catching myself thinking — how terrifying it would be to be stranded up there. Probably the most isolated a person could ever be, completely cut off from civilisation with no way out. Some moments felt slightly unrealistic, though I'll admit I'm not exactly an expert in physics or space, so I can't say for certain. A good watch for anyone who enjoys space-themed films — and a reminder that the universe is very, very indifferent to whether you make it home. See more Read all reviews
