Critics Consensus

Greener Grass is far from the first comedy to skewer suburbia -- but it might be among the most bizarre and surreally distinctive.

A hypnotic watch, yet hard to pin down.

Greener Grass feels sometimes episodic, but it can be an incredibly entertaining romp through the picket fence yards of an America that only exists in our collective unconscious.

The warped and idiosyncratic passions, animosities, materialistic desires, mating habits, and social dynamics of suburbia (where everyone only drives golf carts) are on full display in Greener Grass...

It’s disarmingly sweet, and that makes it scary. The jokes are as innocuous as possible. The terror lies in the straight-faced approach... There’s a Lynchian vibe that permeates the air.

This hilarious stroll onto the other side demonstrates the downside of excessive civility and welcomes the extravagantly silly side of district mania. And it’s nothing short of hysterical.

I laughed a lot following these shallow, dim-witted rivals amid a sea of suburban superficiality.

There are no words. This was the dumbest movie, the biggest waste of time and the biggest waste of money. Period.

I loved it. Say what you will but the director and writers had a vision for this movie and executed it with a heck of a lot of technicolor.

At this point this isn't even a satire, this is just how life in America looks right now.

My partner and I have been quoting this movie for literally 6 years, brilliant watch! "you've clearly had a blow out jill, it looks good"

Amazing film. Do not let the low stars rating scare you off. It is not for everyone, but if you are an artsy, theory loving, deep analysis type of person, this is such a fantastic film. It's more art project than movie which I'm obsessed with. I recommend this to everyone I can. It's such an interesting commentary too. It truly is "the girls who get it, get it, and the ones that don't, don't." type of media, and by god do I get it! I've never seen anything like this and I don't think I ever will again. Genuine masterpiece of art.

Greener Grass, you had me at, "YOU'RE a school!", and, as we all know, if anyone's a school... it's Julian.
