A coming-of-age drama entwined with a political statement, In Bloom underscores its well-worn themes with strong performances and palpable real-world tension.

The leads are played with freshness and mischief by Lika Babluani as Eka and Mariam Bokeria as Natia. Go to Full Review
Drew Hunt Chicago Reader Dec 19, 2014
Directors Nana Ekvtimshvili and Simon Gross adopt the long, contemplative takes of the new wave; much of the film feels familiar, but the location shooting and period details are nicely drawn, a result of Ekvtimshvili's autobiographical script. Go to Full Review

This is a story of adolescence and female friendship under pressure, explored with a quietly engrossing combination of familiarity and strangeness. Go to Full Review

Feb 13, 2018 Distinct mood, outstanding performance by Lika Babluani, reserved storytelling. See more
Aug 9, 2017 Great acting but very slow movie. And what a shit-hole of a place and culture to live in. See more
May 8, 2016 A story about a troubled youth and how in certain places the traditions and the way life goes never actually changes. See more
May 2, 2016 Georgian film where we follow some families in the 1992 version of Tbilisi. Eka and Natia are kids, but they are on the verge of getting into the life of adolthood. Slowly they are exposed for more mature stuff, for both better or worse. Turbulent family lives are key here and so are their poverty. It's all right acted and it tells a rather good story. It looks good, it's very humane and realistic. Still it fail to really grip me. 6 out of 10 guns. See more
Apr 16, 2016 Great writing, acting and directing! Very real and very well told! Very proud to see this kind of a film come from Georgia! See more
