Combining footage from 1999 and 2001 tours, this documentary follows five different gypsy bands as they perform across America. Their music is as diverse as their home countries, from Indian raga tunes to upbeat, fiddle-driven Romanian pieces. Despite their varied backgrounds, the musicians are united by their common identification with the "Roma" gypsy culture. As the tour progresses, the musicians begin playing together, fusing their styles into new hybrids.

Dellal's documentary often seems like a cleaned-up, homogenized version of the chaotic Roma world presented by Gatlif, Kusturica, et al. But even toned down and packaged, the music itself has the power to thrill. Go to Full Review

Mar 5, 2010 A great documentary about the most fascinating group of people on planet. Following 4-5 bands we get to see a lot of the history, emotion, culture and music that Roma people try to put forward in order to change peoples perception on the Gypsy culture. Very well crafted. See more
Jun 16, 2009 The film is well shot and documents a transamerican gypsy concert tour by musicians who are VASTLY talented. Interspersed with live concert footage, again extremely well shot and recorded, the film delves into the backgrounds of these musicians by travelling with them to their home countries and tries to understand their surroundings. Ezma Redzepova, Fanfare Ciocarlia, Maharaja and Taraf De Ha douks all in one film - bring it on! See more
