Anthony J @jenkinsdraws 2 days ago Just okay and far too long. Kidman is quite good, Owen, once you've seen one scene, you've seen them all. He repeats Hemingway as an annoying, self-absorbed, self-important drunk - which gets boring. And catch Metalica drummer Lars Ulrich in a significant role - why? He is awful with accent meandering all over the place. Couldn't they have found an actual actor to play the role? See more C. T @CKO55 Mar 9, 2026 I LOVED this movie! Nicole Kidman, as usual, is a master class in performance! She is absolutely beautiful in this role, however, her portrayal of Martha Gellhorn was pitch perfect! I thought the movie was filmed in a most interesting way the way it went from color to black and white to give you the real feel of war. Clive Owen was also excellent in his portrayal of Ernest Hemmingway. No sugar coating here! The gritty, disrespecting way he portrayed Hemmingway gave you such a great flavor as to what kind of man he was. The other cast members were fine, just didn't stand out to me. I would highly recommend this movie and think most people will understand that period of time after watching it. It is a most realistic adventure and a makes a serious point as to what war is like. See more Dallas H @RT53171010 Dec 31, 2024 The movie feels superficial, bland, and shallow. Plenty of big-name actors and character performers appear in this long-winded movie, but it cannot save the story from being in shambles. See more Apr 30, 2021 Nicole Kidman does a fantastic job as Gellhorn. She successfully portrays Gellhorn as a strong, independent woman. The overall story is okay at best. Great movie for a fun watch, bad movie for its historical attributes. See more May 5, 2020 Is it over-hyped? Is it over-dramatized? Is it stereotypical? Yes. What this TV movie portrays is the energy of the larger than life personalities that have once walked this earth in times that challenged humanity in ways our generation has not, and cannot fathom. The willingness of oneself to put oneself in harms way for the sake of the good fight, to defend the ideals that one has for what humanity might be, and what it might become, and the rawness of this story is a compelling one... which makes this depiction, a depiction worth watching.
