Critics Consensus

Hercules has Brett Ratner behind the cameras and Dwayne Johnson rocking the loincloth -- and delivers exactly what any reasonable person reading that description might expect.

The battle scenes between rival armies are ambitious and long, with a body count to rival 300, but Ratner's unremarkable direction offers no surprises. Go to Full Review

Everything Guardians of the Galaxy gets right with its mix of action and comedy, Hercules botches. Go to Full Review

Ratner has fashioned an adequate action-adventure around Johnson's horse-heaving he-man, a hero who's still larger than life even after the legend has supposedly been stripped away. Go to Full Review

It’s impossible to call “Hercules” a great movie mainly because it lacks originality and borrows too much from too many other films. Go to Full Review

Dwayne Johnson dispatches baddies with Arnold Schwarzenegger styled one-liners. In it he's not subverting his persona, as he did in Pain & Gain, but he can still sneer his through a pay off with aplomb... Go to Full Review

Eric M @RT25429651 22h Closer to bad, than it is to good. Saved by its cast, this movie offers very little to keep you on the edge of your seat as an action film. Past movies utilized cgi much better than Hercules. See more velda W @Popcazlu 2d Not a great Dwayne Johnson fan. However, on this occasion, a great ensemble of heroic cast, and Johnson proved his worth without twitching those muscles biceps of his by portraying Hercules as he goes on a journey of self discovery. Johnson took on the role absolutely brilliantly, along with McShane, Hurt, Sewell, Fiennes, Pennies, Sitscles, Serial, Rhesus and Ferguson and the young boy Andrews. Unforgettable fight scenes with superb cinematographyin this adventure story of a demigod. Colourful narrative with Greek god mythology. Truly a spectacle to watch. Exciting, just like watching Lord of The Rings and Ben Hur starring Charlton Heston. Such gripping stuff that just had me on the end of my seat. Excellent film score was superb, which enhanced the dramatic narrative. Film's director nailed this on the head. Movie sets, CGI, blue screens etc were seamless. See more Frans B @FransB Feb 12 Brilliant! Well written and brought to screen. Great cinematography and visually stunning. Epic proportions and tall tales. Filled with wonder and amazement with a little skullduggery included. Stellar cast all delivers convincingly in character. Lots of action, drama, suspense, intrigue and gritty knuckle busting. Fast paced and very entertaining See more Charlene B @RT87463343 Nov 27 THE ROCK WAS AWESOME PLAYING HERCULES I LOVE THIS MOVIE. THE ACTORS AND ACTRESSES WHO PLAYED WITH HIM DID AWESOME TOO.
