Critics Consensus

Hollywood Homicide suffers from too many subplots and not enough laughs.

Despite a talented cast, this movie doesn't work.

How could so many talented people make such a tepid, superfluous movie? It's easy: that's what happens when you listen to your inner marketer instead of your muse.

The trouble is that Mr. Shelton and Mr. Souza don't do enough with the material to make it dramatically compelling.

The plot makes little sense, and it all degenerates into the inevitable car chase in the final act, but there's enough wit in the script and chemistry between the likeable leads to cover the loose ends.

Anyway, not every scene needs an interpretation, and Hollywood Homicide is solidly entertaining on a scene-by-scene basis, despite all its faults.

If there is one downstroke, it's too many sub-plots crammed into 120 minutes. While each is entertaining in its own right, [Ron] Shelton and [Robert] Souza should have held back a little.

Purile, silly and pointless. Yes, Hollywood has made similar dross over the years. But with Ford, one should expect a minimum level of quality. Unfortunately, this movie misses every positive marker by a long shot. Horrible screenplay, poor casting, incredibly dumb dialogue and a soundtrack that probably provides the most laughs. A film probably best watched after a few cans of Special Brew. Otherwise, avoid.

It isn't horrible - it looks well produced, and has a really strong cast led by Harrison Ford, and he is almost always fun to watch on screen. That said, it is a super formulaic buddy cop flick with absolute garbage side plots about Ford trying to sell houses and Hartnett is doing yoga and wants to be an actor. Somewhere in there is a good satire, but this movie is not it.

This movie is a fun watch for sure, Even to the bare bones of it you have Harrison Ford and Josh Harnett who always make me laugh, and smile lol Mixing Harrison Ford in with the newer 'rap culture' of the time was a perfect contrast and then adding the youthful spirit of Josh? ..and his yoga karma sutra side work, was a great balance to the murders they chase the whole movie. I thought it was a great weekend movie watch and seeing the character development through out was also perfect as they crash threw the new dynamics. If you love these actors, and the rap culture of that period you'll definitely enjoy this movies :)
