Critics Consensus

A comedy of generational manners that blossoms into a sweet tearjerker, How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies bets big on earnestness and hits the jackpot.

While being an emotional ride, it doesn’t feel overly manipulative. A lovely sense of restraint and tenderness runs through it. On the flip side, there’s little about the film’s plot that’s not predictable.

The comedy is not quite so dark that her dysfunctional family have murderous plans — but elbows are still sharpened in a tale of everyday avarice.

The story, character creation, concept, rhythm, picture, color, and music are all excellent. "The son gets the inheritance, the daughter gets cancer", lightly but straightforwardly expresses the deep-rooted imbalance in this seemingly unsolvable traditional concept. But there is no fairness in the world, and in the end, the family still relies on the inseparable love to find the forgotten true feelings and reach an understanding with each other. Isn't this the case for most of the thousands of families in reality?

The kind of movie where you stay a few minutes after— not because of a mid credits stinger, but because you need some time in the dark for the tears to dry…

A beautiful walk through the modern day take on family ties and relationships that are material, selfish and an awakening on the fact, why a presence of a grandparent is necessary for growing children.
