Critics Consensus

A raucous capitalist critique, I Love Boosters careens through the carefully-controlled chaos of writer-director Boots Riley's imagination to deliver a comedy that's as funny as it is thought-provoking.

To be clear: the film’s storytelling and visual ideas are all its own. But their sheer scale makes you marvel at how director Boots Riley fits everything inside one politically impish, gleefully surreal comedy.

Despite the best efforts of a cast that also includes Naomi Ackie and Taylour Paige, the juvenile and cartoonish approach to the issues it flits around makes for a picture that feels insincere at best and asinine at worst.

Directed by rapper Boots Riley, the storyline is not compelling enough to support much of the outlandish costumes, bizarre dialogue and strange side story about a sex demon stealing women’s souls through their genitals.

Bombastic craft and direction, with a ruthlessly scathing view on capitalism, make this a funny and entertaining, if overstuffed, grenade of imagination.

I absolutely loved it. Very colorful. It has a powerful message to it and stars Keke Palmer, one of my favorite actresses.

A, for effort, but felt like it went off the rails a bit, and some of the graphics were distracting.
